Competitive Program

WFSC Competitive Program

West Fargo Soccer Club's competitive program is for kids that are serious about making strides as players and people, while having a ton of fun.  The program is split into the U8-U9 and U10-U19 Girls & Boys teams.

The U8 - U9 program is an introduction to competitive soccer, with participation in a local tournament and the opportunity to play in ND Soccer League Jamborees.

The U10 - U19 teams will play in a total of four tournaments, with some overnight travel required.  Teams also have the opportunity to play additional games, with additional costs covered by players.

We use the age groups dictated by US Youth Soccer. Those groups are based on calendar birth years. Click here for an explanation and see the chart below.

Meet Danny Dougherty, Director of Coaching

Danny Dougherty

I received my first coaching job on the Island of Okinawa, Japan.  I coached the Jaquars U14’s boys team for the Air Force Youth Sports program in 1981.  I continued to coach base soccer teams for the Marine Corps until my honorable discharge in 1987.

Upon arriving in North Dakota and enlisting in the ND Air National Guard, I answered an ad in The Forum newspaper for the need of coaches for youth soccer.  I was placed as head coach for the North High Freshman girl’s team.  I spent the next two years as the head coach for the West Fargo High School teams and four more with Shanley High School teams.

I continued my coaching career with assistant coaching positions with NDSU and MSUM women’s soccer teams for the next 11 years.  During that time I kept coaching summer club teams and working in the club system as President of North Dakota Youth Soccer Association.

I began my West Fargo Soccer Club coaching position in 2012 working for Ericka Freed (now Ericka Urness, the Club's Rec Director), who was the DOC at the time.  I have since moved to the position of DOC for the club this year.

West Fargo Soccer Club has a rich tradition in competition and strives for excellence in training.  I look forward to bringing my passion and experience to WFSC and look forward to working with families to enrich the love of soccer.
